I’ll be the first to admit that eating healthy isn’t always the easiest. In fact, if something isn’t readily accessible, I will almost always go for the less healthy option because less healthy = less work. I know, I know, it’s lazy and a silly excuse, but let me ask you this…
Have you ever been 20 minutes ahead of schedule only to look down at your watch and realize you should have left the house a minute ago and still have to grab lunch or a snack before you leave? That’s what I thought. We all have our moments, some more than others. And guess what? It’s okay! So, in honor of all us women (and men) who are running around the house like crazy people just trying to make sure we aren’t adding “hangry” to our list of feelings we have already experienced before 8am, I give you my 3 Healthy Kitchen Staples – with one bonus favorite!
1. Cut up Veggies – I go grocery shopping every Saturday and stock up for the whole week because the fewer trips to the store, the easier my life becomes (get my free grocery shopping printable here). When I get home, the first thing I do after unloading all the groceries is cut up about two days worth of veggies for my husband and myself. This makes it easy for me to go to the fridge and reach for carrots, celery or peppers instead of cheese sticks or granola bars that are 1/2 sugar.
2. Protein Shakes – Protein shakes can be hit or miss and, believe me, I am speaking from experience! The best part about these protein shakes is that you can get them at the almighty Costco or Amazon! Premiere protein shakes are tasty, easy and have only one gram of sugar! That my friends, is unheard of. The other super awesome thing you can do with them is combine them with your iced coffee or espresso and make a Chocolate Mocha, Vanilla Latte or Caramel Macchiato! I would not combine mixing the Strawberry flavor with coffee, but hey! Maybe there is something there that I was too nervous to try?
3. Frozen Bananas – I know this sounds weird…but hear me out! There are so many things you can do with a frozen banana! Have a sweet tooth in the evening but don’t want to ruin all your progress? Grab a frozen banana and blend it with some cinnamon or strawberries and a little hint of vanilla! Boom, you have banana “nice-cream”. Craving pancakes? You can even dip bananas in some melted dark chocolate, flash freeze them and then put them in some freezer bags for a quick grab (psssst! you can even put peanut butter in between two slices and THEN dip them in chocolate and freeze them).
Lets just say you need something that can fit in your purse in case you, the kids, or your significant other need a little something just to tide them over in case you get stuck in traffic, are waiting for a sporting event to finish or to just have in your desk at work if your lunch is just a little too far away.
